REVIEW: EVAN PARKER - THE AYES HAVE IT

EVAN PARKER - THE AYES HAVE IT (Emanem Disc, 2001):

Technical data:

Analogue studio recording in 1-4 made in London, December 1983.

Digital Concert Recording by Martin Davidson, London August 1, 1991.

Editing, masteringa and design by Martin Davidson.

Track List:1- Aye 1, 2- Aye 2, 3- Aye 3, 4- Aye 4, 5- The Eyes Have it

This is an album with two parts...the first one is comprised of four tracks with improvisations in a trio format recorded in studio on 1983 and that features Parker´s excelent skills as saxophonist while Paul Rogers constructs the double bass structure for him to improvise while making uncommon sounds with his instruments and while Jamie Muir developes his undesciphrable percussion playing and enhances the eerie feeling by using some toys. The second part of this release onsist in a 36 and a half minutes jam in quartet format this time including a trombone (this is a recording from 1991). The sound in this second part is better, specially on the saxophone and I like a lot the interventions and unisons of Parker and Wierbos (trombone). Close minded people abstain. Favorite track: "The Eyes Have It", and "Aye 2". Contact: www.emanemdisc.com
