PRESS RELEASE:
A bunch of young metalheads met at the Heavy Sound Festival (Poperinge Belgium) in 1985 and the idea of forming a metal band was born. Soon the first songs were written by Guy Commeene / guitar (Dyscordia, Anesthesy, Artrach,...) and Filip Vandamme / guitar. Filip also came up with the name “Battalion” due to the success of Metal Church’s classic debut album with the song “Battalions” on it. Geert Jacques / drums, Bart Lamsens / bass and Piet Overstijns / vocals
(Dyscordia, Artrach) completed the line-up. Piet was soon replaced by Geert ‘Wisten’ Wieczorek. After some smaller and bigger gigs all over Belgium with acts like Killer, Angel Dust, Xes, Tankard, Sodom,...
Stefaan ‘DC’ Deceunink (Buzzard, Wizz Wizzard) was also recruited to take over Geert’s drumming duties. With this line-up the first demo “Evil Legions” was recorded in a studio in Aalst. After that there were also some line-up changes and Reinier Schenk / guitar (Saille, Fleshmould, Yosh) and Stefaan Vanhoutte / bass (Stainless Steel,...). Despite of the line-up changes Battalion were disbanded after a relatively short time somewhere at the end of 1987 after the departure
of Guy. Yosh was formed from the remains of Battalion.
