Mountain Shadow, who’s self-titled debut will be released this Friday, is Pennsylvanian Folk Death Metal, existing between Archaic Death Metal, Atmospheric Black Metal, Funeral Doom & Bluegrass, exalting Appalachian Horror and the melancholic ruins of nostalgic America.
Damian (Robes of Snow) & his childhood compatriot KA have crafted a self-titled album that draws from different genres of music as well as cinema, folk tales, & literary myth to create Mountain Shadow’s unique sound. Folk & bluegrass can be heard alongside dissonant riffs, pained shrieks, feral growls, and session drummer CJ Yacoub’s furious percussion. Each member’s obsession with horror & the terrors of the natural world can be heard in the field recordings the sparse and haunting synths that permeate the album.
Following an exclusive premiere on No Clean Singing, 100 heavyweight black LPs will be available on March 29.
"As you might guess from the teasers above, the music is an unusual amalgam of sensations and styles, integrating and juxtaposing mesmerizing but frightening acoustic instrumentation with a dark, backwoods atmosphere (most prominently in the intro track); low-end mangling sounds like the excavations of a tunnel-boring machine; maniacally clattering percussion and equally maniacal guitar convulsions; and scalding screams and horrid roars — plus piston-pumping grooves; hulking stomps; eerily wailing and squealing tones of unknown origin; and bursts of demented banjo melody." - No Clean Singing
